Mutual Fund Flow Tracker — Category Inflows & Outflows

Every month AMFI publishes how much money moved into and out of each mutual fund category — and this page turns that release into charts: net inflows and outflows by category, trends over time, and the size of India's monthly SIP book. Flow data is the closest thing to a real-time map of Indian investor behaviour.

What flow data can tell you

  • Sentiment, measured in rupees. Surging equity inflows signal optimism; debt outflows often track rate expectations or tax changes. Compare with daily FII/DII activity to separate domestic from foreign behaviour.
  • Category rotation. When money chases last year's winner — a common pattern in small cap funds after a strong run — valuations in that pocket can stretch. Heavy inflows are a reason for more care, not less.
  • The SIP book's steady climb shows systematic investing becoming a national habit — a structural cushion for Indian equities, since this money arrives every month regardless of headlines.

What flow data cannot tell you

Flows follow performance more often than they predict it. A category receiving record inflows is not therefore about to outperform — if anything, crowd behaviour argues for checking valuations and sticking to your allocation. Frequently asked questions

What is the SIP book?

The combined amount invested through Systematic Investment Plans across all fund houses in a month. AMFI reports it monthly; its growth over the years reflects how many Indian households now invest on autopilot.

Do high inflows into a category mean it will perform well?

No. Inflows usually chase past returns. Sustained heavy inflows can even push valuations to levels that reduce future returns. Treat flows as a sentiment gauge, not a recommendation — and remember mutual fund investments are subject to market risks.

When is the data updated?

AMFI typically releases monthly numbers in the first half of the following month; charts here update once the official release is out.
